About the Modernists' Guide to Cocktails
The Modernist’s Guide to Cocktails is a meeting place for design enthusiasts who love a good cocktail along with gossip about architecture's most notorious scandals. Conversely,it's also a site for cocktail lovers who happen to be design curious. It takes an unvarnished look at modernism via social histories, juicy anecdotes, and the favorite cocktails of the founders of modernism. Because what better way to delve into the notorious feuds, affairs, and ”frenemies” of modern design than over cocktails? And let's face it we all need a strong drink these days...
In addition to entertaining stories, I hope the site can introduce a more diverse and inclusive group of designers and architects than are typically considered in the modernist "canon". (the modernist "canon" is so last century) Because it focuses on the
(oft-times non-traditional) personal lives and relationships of modernist designers and architects, LGBQT viewers will find illuminating stories about some of the twentieth century's most iconic architects and designers that have been left out of the history books. Lastly everything on this blog will be filtered through my own personal viewpoint, as a feminist, an architect and a lover of strong drink.
